Habit Tracker & Coach
A tracker shows you the data. A coach changes the behaviour. This skill does both — streak tracking when habits are working, diagnostic coaching when they break, and an honest read on which habits to kill.
What this skill does
Most habits fail not from lack of willpower but from poor design. The skill applies three evidence-based principles — make the habit easy to start (environment design), connect it to identity not just outcome, and prioritise minimum-viable consistency over intensity. A streak of "read one page daily" beats a broken streak of "read 30 minutes." The minimum is the real habit; the full version is a bonus.
Setup defines each habit as a stack: the trigger (when and where), the minimum (the smallest version you can do on your worst day — 1 push-up, 1 page, 5 minutes), the full version (the ideal on a good day), and the streak rule (what counts as done — always the minimum). The skill caps new trackers at 3-5 habits and refuses to add more while existing ones are below 80% completion. Adding habits when current ones are struggling guarantees all of them fail.
Check-ins are quick — done or not done, per habit. The skill tracks streak, weekly total, longest ever, and when the streak last broke. When a habit misses two days in a row, it switches from tracking to coaching, and that's where the actual value lives. Every break gets classified into one of four types — environmental (forgot, trigger didn't fire), motivational (didn't feel like it), capacity (genuinely couldn't), resistance (actively avoided). The fix is different for each. Environmental breaks need a better trigger; motivational ones need a smaller minimum; capacity breaks are legitimate and don't get guilt-tripped; resistance breaks signal the habit itself might be wrong.
Weekly reviews surface patterns no daily tracker can. If exercise days correlate with meditation days, they might share a trigger. If journaling drops when stress rises — exactly when you need it — that's a design problem. The skill flags these explicitly. It will also recommend killing habits with persistent low completion, because a habit you consistently resist isn't building character, it's draining willpower. The motivation calibration adjusts by stage: high encouragement at days 1-30, drier acknowledgement at 30+, and — most importantly — zero shame after a break. "The streak broke. Your identity didn't. Start again today." Shame makes people quit tracking entirely, and the skill refuses to do it.
