What this skill does
The offer letter has two jobs that often get confused. It's a legal document that has to be specific enough to prevent disputes. And it's a closing tool — the last piece of communication before the candidate signs — so it has to feel like a welcome, not a court filing. Most templates do one or the other. The skill produces both at once.
Verbal first. The written letter formalises what's already been agreed, it doesn't introduce new terms. If anything in the letter is going to surprise the candidate, the verbal offer was incomplete and the skill flags that before drafting. The opening paragraph is enthusiasm and confirmation — "delighted to offer," plus one personalised sentence about why they were selected. Not boilerplate, not Mad-Libs warmth.
Every material term gets named. Role: title, department, reporting line, location with hybrid specifics, start date, employment type, hours. Compensation: base salary with currency and frequency, bonus structure if applicable (target, criteria, timing), equity with vesting and cliff, commission structure. Benefits: holiday with accrual method, pension with employer contribution, sick pay, parental leave, other benefits with detail. "Competitive benefits" is not a term — specific entitlements are.
Conditions and covenants are handled openly at offer stage, not buried in the contract that follows two weeks later. Restrictive covenants in particular — non-compete, non-solicitation — get a brief summary in the offer letter so the candidate can raise issues before resigning their current job, not after. Conditional offers state the conditions clearly (references, right to work, background check, medical clearance), and what happens if conditions aren't satisfied.
The skill is jurisdiction-aware. UK: written statement of particulars by Day 1, pension auto-enrolment, statutory holiday minimum, right-to-work check as legal requirement. US: at-will language where applicable, FLSA exempt/non-exempt status, I-9 verification, state-specific items flagged. EU: Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions Directive items, collective agreements where relevant. It doesn't claim to replace local legal review for senior or complex roles — it flags where that review is needed.
Acceptance deadline is included by default — 5–7 business days. Open-ended offers linger, block your backup candidate, and create uncertainty. The skill also produces negotiation notes (what's typically flexible — salary band position, start date, holiday, signing bonus; what's typically fixed — pension scheme, benefits package, reporting line) and a verbal offer talking guide so the call that precedes the letter lands as well as the letter itself.
