Investor Update Writer
Investor updates aren't a legal obligation — they're a relationship tool. Founders who send honest monthly updates get more help (intros, advice, follow-on cheques) than those who go silent. The Investor Update Writer turns your metrics and context into a 5-minute read that builds trust through transparency, not spin.
What this skill does
Investors expect problems. They worry when they don't hear about them. The updates that build trust are the ones that lead with whatever the news actually is — good, bad, or mixed — in two or three sentences at the top, before any spin has a chance to creep in. The skill enforces this: the TLDR cannot bury the lede, and it cannot dress up a bad month as something nuanced. Investors see through it instantly and the trust cost compounds.
The structure runs the same every month — TLDR, metrics dashboard, wins, challenges, product update, team, financial summary, asks, looking ahead. Same metrics in the same table month after month, so investors can track the trend. Adding and removing metrics looks like hiding something, and the skill won't let you do it. Bad metrics get highlighted, not buried — if churn doubled, it goes front and centre with a one-paragraph explanation of why and what you're doing about it.
The Asks section is where most updates fail and where most ROI from the investor relationship actually comes from. "Any intros would be appreciated" is not an ask. "Looking for intros to heads of engineering at Series A SaaS companies in healthcare" is. The skill drafts asks specific enough that an investor can act on them inside a single email reply — because that's the difference between an update that produces help and one that produces a polite read.
Length is enforced. Under 800 words. A 5-minute read. Pre-revenue companies get 400-500 words focused on milestones and runway. Growth-stage gets 600-800 with scaling metrics and strategic decisions. The skill won't pad — a good 500-word update every month beats a perfect 1,500-word update every quarter, and consistency is the single thing investors value most after honesty.
