YouTube Video Ideator

Most creators either copy what's trending and drown in competition, or brainstorm in a vacuum and wonder why nobody watches. The YouTube Video Ideator generates 20 ideas across 5 frameworks, scored on search demand, competition gap, and creator fit — ranked so you know which five to film first.

What this skill does

Random ideas get random results. The YouTube algorithm and the human watching the algorithm both respond to specific things, and they're not the same things. This skill generates by framework, not by brainstorming — five engines, four ideas each, twenty total — so the output covers the real strategic surface of the niche instead of producing twenty variants of the same thought. The engines are the Search Gap (topics being actively searched but poorly served), the Curiosity Hook (information-gap framings), the Authority Builder (definitive-source plays), the Trend Rider (current events and launches the channel can credibly cover), and the Collaboration/Reaction (leveraging other creators' content and audiences).

Every idea gets scored out of fifteen — five points each on Search Demand (is anyone actually looking for this), Competition Gap (are existing videos poor, outdated, or missing), and Creator Fit (can this specific creator deliver this better than most). Total scores rank the twenty. The top five are flagged "film first" with the hook angle written, a suggested format, and a one-sentence opportunity note. The next fifteen sit in a pipeline table with priorities marked.

Channel size matters and the skill weighs it. Under 10,000 subs leans the mix toward searchable content because that's how small channels get discovered. Over 50,000 leans toward browse — curiosity hooks and authority pieces — because the algorithm starts recommending you to non-subscribers. Brand-new channels get an even narrower brief: search-optimised, niche-defining, within the creator's best expertise. No trend-riding for zero-sub channels; foundation first.

Output also includes a 4-week calendar suggestion that sequences ideas deliberately (start with the strongest evergreen, vary format on week three, time the trend-sensitive one when it matters), title alternatives so the click-worthiness is variable, a content mix check against a 60-70% evergreen / 20-30% timely / 10-20% community target, and a format variety check that ensures the twenty include at least three different formats. And if growth has stalled, the skill will tell you honestly when the problem isn't ideation — it might be titles, thumbnails, retention, or posting consistency, and more ideas won't fix any of those.

When this triggers

  • ·You've run out of ideas and the upload schedule is starting to slip
  • ·Your growth has stalled and you suspect ideation is the problem (or want it diagnosed honestly)
  • ·You're under 10k subs and need a search-led pipeline, not a trend-led one
  • ·You want a content calendar built — not just a list of topics
  • ·You're a new channel and need foundation videos, not viral chasing

Example

Trigger

User: 'I run a channel for self-employed UK accountants. 4k subs. Best video was a Making Tax Digital walkthrough. Last few flopped.'

Output

20 ideas across 5 engines. Top 5 (film first): #1 (Score 13/15): "How to Use Making Tax Digital When HMRC Changes the Rules Again (2026 Update)" Engine: Search Gap · Search 5/5 · Gap 4/5 · Fit 4/5 Why: your MTD video over-indexed; the 2026 changes create fresh search demand. Hook: "HMRC quietly changed three things last month." #2: "I Reviewed Every UK Bookkeeping App Solo Accountants Actually Use" — Authority Builder #3: "Why Most Sole Trader Tax Advice Is Written for Limited Companies" — Curiosity Hook #4-5... Next 15 in pipeline table, 4-week calendar suggestion, title alternatives, content mix check, format variety check.
