Community Launch Playbook

Most paid communities die in the first 30 days — empty rooms, no rituals, the creator burning out trying to revive silence. The Community Launch Playbook builds the four-week pre-launch warm-up, the day-by-day launch week, and the first 30 days that actually decide whether a community lives or dies.

What this skill does

Communities don't fail at launch because the platform was wrong or the price was wrong. They fail because someone opened the doors to an empty room. The dominant failure mode is predictable — a creator sets up the platform, posts "we're live!" to a cold audience, gets a burst of sign-ups, and watches engagement decay to zero by week three. The fix isn't a better launch tactic. The fix is a four-week pre-launch sequence that means the room is already alive on day one.

Founding members are the entire ball game. The skill enforces this hard — 10 to 25 people you personally DM, who you offer a discounted lifetime price in exchange for being active in launch week (not passive members, active ones who post first, ask the first questions, welcome new joiners, and set the cultural temperature). A community with 15 engaged founding members will outperform one with 200 passive signups every single time. The skill provides the outreach templates and won't proceed to week -2 until you can name the specific people you'll invite.

Launch week is day-by-day, not "post when inspired." Day 1 is your welcome post plus pre-coordinated founder intros plus an easy first prompt. Days 2-3 deliver real value early — your best resource, a live welcome call, a member spotlight — so day-three members already feel the community paid for itself. Days 4-5 introduce the recurring rituals (Win Wednesday, Friday Q&A, whatever fits) because rituals are what bring members back next week. Days 6-7 are reflective — what's working, who's quiet, what to adjust before week two starts.

The first 30 days set the culture forever. However members behave in month one is how they'll behave in month twelve, so the skill front-loads everything that creates the right behaviour: replying to every post within four hours, elevating member contributions instead of being the only voice, running a signature experience in week three so members have a story to tell others, and culling dead channels in week four rather than carrying them. Edge cases handled: no existing audience (longer pre-launch, focus on audience building first), corporate community (founding members become internal champions). The output includes every template you need — founding outreach, launch announcement, welcome post, community guidelines — so nothing has to be written from scratch under launch-week pressure.

When this triggers

  • ·You're about to launch a paid or free community and want a real plan, not a checklist of platform setup steps
  • ·You've launched a community before and it went silent within 30 days
  • ·You have an audience but no idea how to convert them into engaged founding members
  • ·You're tempted to open the doors to everyone at once and post 'we're live!' on socials
  • ·You need outreach templates, welcome messages, and guideline drafts — not just a timeline

Example

Trigger

Examples: "B2B copy advice online is consumer copy with extra buzzwords." Gauge replies. · Email 1: "I'm thinking about building something — would this be useful?" (genuine ask, no link, no commit). Target: 25 commit. · Founding offer: £19/month locked for life, in exchange for being active in launch week. Week -2: Build the container · Skool setup: 4 spaces (Wins · Discussion · Briefs/Feedback · Resources). Not 12. · Pre-load 8 posts visible on day one — including 3 from founding members posted by them in week -2 access. · Schedule week-1 prompts and Friday's live Q&A. Week -1: Warm · 3-email sequence: problem → solution → invitation · Social: "Founders are in. Here's what they're already saying." · Cap urgency honestly: 60 founder slots, then £39 standard. LAUNCH WEEK (Day 1-7) Day 1: Welcome post (you, vulnerable). Founders post intros (pre-coordinated). First discussion prompt. Day 2-3: Drop your best swipe file. Live welcome call (45min).
