Product Description Writer

Most product descriptions are either feature dumps ('100% cotton, machine washable') or empty hype ('revolutionary'). Neither sells. Benefit-led copy that answers 'what will this do for me?' — and weaves in the search terms that bring buyers to the page — converts. The Product Description Writer produces that.

What this skill does

The buyer doesn't care about 300gsm cotton. They care about a shirt that doesn't go baggy after washing. Features tell, benefits sell, outcomes close — and every feature in the description gets translated through that chain before it appears on the page. The skill won't write "premium materials" because that's a feature pretending to be a benefit; it writes the specific outcome the buyer experiences.

Structure is consistent across descriptions so a range feels like one brand wrote it. Headline hook (the reason to want it, not the product name). Opening paragraph that puts the buyer in the scenario. Four to six benefit bullets, each pairing the gain with the supporting feature in parentheses, the last one acting as the objection-buster that pre-empts the biggest reason not to buy. Social proof line if available. Clean spec list for the buyer who needs details before purchasing. Micro-CTA that reinforces the benefit rather than shouting "Buy Now". Match the structure across a 20-product range and the brand voice carries through automatically; vary the openings and headlines so each product still feels distinct.

Platform-aware. Shopify and DTC pages get the full creative treatment. Amazon descriptions get rebuilt around bullets because that's what the platform rewards — strict title formula, backend keywords, no promotional language. Etsy descriptions lead with the maker's story because Etsy buyers pay a premium for the person behind the product. Marketplace listings (eBay, Depop, Vinted) get condition transparency front and centre — sceptical buyers, returns prevention, exact measurements. Same product, different platform, different copy.

Technical products invert the order. Electronics, tools, B2B software and similar — the sensory opening paragraph that works for fashion falls flat for a USB-C hub buyer who needs port count and power delivery first. Lead with specs and compatibility, follow with benefits. The skill detects the category and adjusts.

Honest about minimal input. If all you provide is a product name and three specs, the skill writes the strongest description it can from what's given and flags exactly which inputs would make it stronger — material details, the buyer's failed alternatives, what differentiates this from competitors. You get value first, the refinement request second. Output includes the full description, clean spec list, meta description under 155 characters, recommended URL slug, primary and secondary keyword placement notes, plus a short version for email and a one-liner for ads.

When this triggers

  • ·You're launching a product range on Shopify, Etsy, or Amazon and need descriptions that actually convert, not feature lists
  • ·Your current copy reads like a spec sheet and your bounce rate on product pages is high
  • ·You're writing 20+ descriptions for a range and need the voice to stay consistent across all of them
  • ·You're selling a technical product (electronics, B2B, software) and lifestyle copy isn't fitting
  • ·You only have a product name and a few specs — you want a draft now plus a list of what would make it stronger

Example

Trigger

User: 'Organic cotton crewneck t-shirt, 300gsm, unisex, £45, Shopify, brand voice is plain-spoken and considered.'

Output

HEADLINE The last t-shirt you'll buy this year. OPENING Heavy enough to hold its shape through a hundred washes — the kind of weight you notice the first time you pick it up and never think about again. Cut for a relaxed shoulder without the deflated look that £15 cotton gives you by month three. WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT · Holds its shape wash after wash — (300gsm organic cotton) · Sits clean on the shoulder — (re-cut neckline, reinforced seam) · Soft from day one, softer at year three — (combed long-staple fibre) · Won't shrink past the first wash — (pre-washed, pre-shrunk) · Fits true to size — (size guide based on 1,400 returns data) [Specs · 155-char meta · short version for email · ad one-liner] SEO NOTES Primary keyword in headline + first sentence. Long-tail variants ('heavyweight cotton t-shirt UK') in opening.
