Product Listing Optimiser

Most sellers write a listing once and never touch it while competitors update theirs quarterly. The gap between a listing that barely converts and one that converts well is rarely the product — it's the listing. The Product Listing Optimiser audits an existing listing across 8 dimensions, names the three biggest leaks, and rewrites with before/after side by side.

What this skill does

Diagnosis before prescription. Most "listing optimisation" advice is generic — write better bullets, add reviews, use bold text — and almost none of it tells you which fix to do first on this listing. The audit scores eight specific dimensions out of five each (title effectiveness, benefit clarity, search optimisation, objection handling, social proof, scannability, emotional pull, CTA and urgency), gives a total out of 40, and names the three weakest links. Conversion is a chain — title gets the click, images create desire, bullets answer questions, description closes, reviews confirm — and identifying which link is broken is most of the work.

Before/after side by side. Every section that gets rewritten is shown alongside the original so you can see exactly what changed and why. If a bullet was already pulling its weight, the skill calls that out and leaves it alone — preserving what works matters as much as fixing what doesn't. The output ends with a priority action plan: three changes ranked by expected impact, with effort estimates in minutes, so you can ship the highest-impact fix in an afternoon rather than spreading effort thin.

Platform-aware. Amazon has character limits, formatting rules, and a different ranking logic to Shopify. Shopify rewards story, internal links, and richer metadata. Etsy rewards maker narrative and long-tail keyword phrasing. The skill optimises for the platform you specified rather than handing back a generic template.

Funnel-stage diagnosis is included. The skill asks about traffic before recommending fixes, because high traffic plus low conversion is a listing problem and low traffic plus low sales is a keyword and SEO problem — and the cures are different. High traffic and decent conversion isn't a listing problem at all; it's a growth opportunity, and the skill will tell you so rather than rewrite something that's already working. Image weaknesses get flagged when the copy reveals them — bullets describing features that should be shown visually, descriptions compensating for what images aren't doing — even though this is a copy skill.

If the user says "my listing isn't converting" without pasting it, the skill asks for the full text or URL. Optimising blind produces generic advice; the value is in diagnosing the specific listing. A/B testing recommendations get attached where the platform supports them — change one thing, measure, then move to the next, because shipping a rewrite as a single bundle makes it impossible to learn which change moved the number.

When this triggers

  • ·You have a listing that gets traffic but the conversion rate is below category benchmark
  • ·You suspect specific weak spots but want a structured audit before guessing at fixes
  • ·You're asked 'what should I change first?' and need a priority order, not a 20-item to-do
  • ·You're testing optimisations and need before/after pairs to run A/B properly
  • ·You're diagnosing whether the problem is the listing or the traffic — and need to know which

Example

Trigger

User pastes a Shopify product page with title, 5 bullets, and 600-word description, says 'traffic is fine but conversion is 1.4%.'

Output

AUDIT — 22/40 | Dimension | Score | Verdict | | Title | 2/5 | Keyword OK, no differentiator, weak click hook | | Benefits | 2/5 | Feature-led, not benefit-led | | Search/SEO | 4/5 | Good keyword coverage | | Objection handling | 1/5 | Sizing fear unaddressed — likely cart killer | | Social proof | 3/5 | Star rating present, no review quotes | | Scannability | 3/5 | Long paragraphs, no visual hierarchy | | Emotional pull | 2/5 | Purely informational | | CTA/Urgency | 3/5 | Default Add to Cart, no reinforcement | TOP 3 PROBLEMS 1. Objection (sizing) — no fit guide near the buy button. Likely losing the cart-to-purchase step here. 2. Bullets lead with features. Rewrite as benefit-first. 3. Title has no differentiator beyond the keyword. Then: full rewrite, before/after per section, + 3-row priority action plan with effort estimates.
