Testimonial Formatter

Raw testimonials in DMs and survey replies don't convert until someone formats them. The Testimonial Formatter turns the dump of 'great service!' and 6-paragraph life stories into social proof that actually sells — without inventing a word.

What this skill does

Social proof is the second-strongest factor in a purchase decision after price. Badly formatted testimonials hurt conversion — wall-of-text reviews and unattributed five-star ratings signal cherry-picking or fakery. Well-formatted testimonials with specific results, real names, real context, and the right placement build trust faster than any sales copy the founder can write about themselves. The skill's job is the formatting and the hierarchy. The voice stays the customer's.

Every raw testimonial gets ranked on a five-tier value hierarchy. Transformation testimonials with a specific before-and-after sit at the top — these become hero quotes. Specific outcome testimonials with a concrete result are next. Then experience testimonials with emotional detail. Then credibility testimonials where the who matters as much as the what. Generic praise sits at the bottom and only earns a place in volume, never as a featured quote. The skill picks the right mix for the layout — sales pages get a highlight reel, dedicated testimonial pages get a wall of love, long-form pages get scattered placement next to the claims each quote supports.

Editing rules are strict. The skill can remove filler words ("um", "like", "basically"), fix typos, trim length with visible ellipses, reorder sentences for flow, and bold the key phrase for visual emphasis. It cannot add words the customer didn't say, change meaning, combine quotes from different people, remove qualifiers that shift the claim ("it mostly worked" never becomes "it worked"), or invent testimonials. Every edited version is delivered alongside the original so the user can verify nothing was distorted. Any testimonial without confirmed publishing permission gets flagged before formatting, not after.

Output is the formatted testimonials, the recommended layout (Highlight Reel, Wall of Love, Scattered, Video, Case Study Spotlight), a placement map showing which testimonial sits next to which objection it resolves, a list of missing proof gaps — categories where the user has no testimonials and should — and a collection template: the email script, the timing guidance (ask after a win), the prompting questions designed to elicit Tier 1 stories from future customers, and a follow-up for the ones who agree but don't submit. Bracketed placeholders mark anywhere a real name or metric should land — the skill never invents attribution.

When this triggers

  • ·You have a folder of customer DMs, emails, and survey replies and no testimonial section
  • ·Your current testimonials are all 'highly recommend!' with no specifics
  • ·You have one great long story and don't know which 2 sentences to pull
  • ·You're building a sales page and need a hierarchy — hero quote, supporting quotes, micro-quotes
  • ·You need a collection template to elicit better testimonials from future customers

Example

Trigger

User pastes 14 raw quotes from email and DMs. Building a sales page for a £497 course.

Output

Tiered output: Tier 1 (transformation) — featured hero, 1 of 14: "Before the course I had two clients at £400/month each. Three months in, I'd replaced them with one retainer at £2,400/month. I'd been chasing the wrong size of client for 18 months." — [Full Name], [Role], [City] Original vs. edited: trimmed from 240 → 52 words. No meaning changed. Permission flagged: confirm before publishing. Tier 2-3 (specific outcomes) — 4 supporting cards. Tier 5 (general praise) — 3 micro-quotes for sidebar. Recommended layout: Highlight Reel — 1 hero + 3 supporting + metrics bar ([N] students | [avg rating] | [N] reviews). Missing-proof gaps: no testimonials about the [community/ support] feature. Collection template included. [+ placement map per testimonial, collection email template]
