Zero-Click Commerce Strategy

Commerce is shifting from 'search, browse, click, buy' to 'ask an AI, get a recommendation, buy.' AI agents don't browse websites — they consume structured data. Brands optimised for this get recommended; brands that aren't get skipped. The Zero-Click Commerce Strategy audits AI readability, builds the structured-data layer, and writes the product briefs AI agents can quote directly.

What this skill does

Structured data is the new SEO. In 2020 you optimised for Google's text crawler. Now you optimise for AI agents that consume structured product data, and Schema.org markup is the foundation. The audit covers product schema (name, description, image, price, currency, availability, brand, SKU, GTIN, aggregate rating), Offer schema with valid price and availability, Review and AggregateRating markup, and the technical accessibility of all of it — reviews behind a JavaScript widget that AI crawlers can't execute might as well not exist. The skill names which fields are missing, which are malformed, and which order to fix them in.

Honesty wins in AI commerce. AI agents cross-reference sources, so a product description that overpromises gets contradicted by reviews and down-ranked in the recommendation. Explicit "best for / not ideal for" statements build machine trust in a way that marketing-speak doesn't. The skill writes a conversational product brief per SKU with a one-sentence pitch, a three-bullet summary, the explicit ideal customer, an honest "this isn't right if..." line, comparison positioning against named alternatives, and FAQ pairs in the question-and-answer format that AI agents can quote directly without reformatting.

Channel-specific actions are split out. Google AI Overviews and Shopping Graph need a clean Merchant Center feed, product titles that answer search queries directly, and fresh crawlable reviews. ChatGPT and Perplexity need natural-language descriptions written for paraphrasing rather than keyword matching, robots.txt that doesn't block AI crawlers, and content that doesn't require JavaScript rendering to access. Voice commerce needs speakable product names, one-sentence attribute summaries, and real-time accurate availability. Each channel gets its own checklist, not a generic to-do.

Right-sized to the brand. A Shopify seller with 30 SKUs doesn't need an AI commerce transformation programme — they need Product schema on every page, an active Merchant Center feed, and descriptions that are clear and parseable. Advanced conversational optimisation comes after the foundation. Marketplace-only sellers get an honest acknowledgement: if you sell only on Amazon or Etsy, you can't add custom schema to the product page, so the strategy shifts to optimising data feeds, maximising review quality, AI-parseable titles, and building a minimal DTC presence — even a single landing page — where you control the structured data.

This doesn't replace traditional SEO. AI agents still pull from indexed web pages, so clean URLs, fast pages, proper headings, and mobile-friendly layouts remain prerequisites. Zero-click optimisation is a layer on top of e-commerce best practice, not a replacement. Output includes the readability audit scored per dimension, the exact schema markup to add or fix with code examples, the per-SKU AI product brief template, the channel-specific action checklists, and a monitoring plan — monthly tests of ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI in your category to see whether the changes are landing. The skill is honest about pace: AI commerce protocols are still evolving, so the strategy concentrates on the data foundation that will serve every future channel regardless of which platforms eventually win.

When this triggers

  • ·You've noticed ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews recommending competitors in your category and not you
  • ·Your product pages have no Schema.org markup or only the bare minimum and you suspect that's the gap
  • ·You're handing off to a developer and need the exact schema, content, and feed changes spelled out
  • ·You sell only on marketplaces (Amazon, Etsy, eBay) and need a realistic strategy given the limited control
  • ·You're a small Shopify seller and don't need a transformation programme — you need the basics done well

Example

Trigger

User: 'DTC skincare. Shopify. 30 SKUs. Product schema present but missing reviews and offers data. Tested ChatGPT for our category — recommends three competitors, not us.'

Output

AI READINESS — Medium-Low. AUDIT · Product schema present but Offers + AggregateRating missing · Reviews load via JS widget — not crawlable by most AI agents · No conversational product briefs anywhere on site · Google Merchant Center feed active but stale prices PRIORITY FIXES (ordered by impact / effort) 1. Switch review widget to one that renders server-side — fastest win, AI agents can finally see your social proof. 2. Add Offers schema with price, availability, returns policy. 3. Add AggregateRating schema sitewide. 4. Build "AI product brief" page per SKU — one-sentence pitch, three-bullet summary, best for / not ideal for, FAQ pairs. MONITORING Monthly: ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI to recommend products in your category. Log appearances. + per-SKU brief template, structured-data examples.
